8 WEEK SCREENWRITING
CLASS FOR BEGINNERS
I think it’s fair to say that we’ve all watched a bad movie and said, “I have a dope idea for my own film” but you didn’t know the right steps to take to actually make it happen. Over the past 10 years, I’ve read numerous screenwriting books and scripts, attended writing workshops, studied with screenwriting mentors and invested lots of money to hone my craft. All those things were essential to my screenwriting journey but I still needed a system that guided me step by step to get my concepts into a script format. I’ve developed a process that has been extremely helpful and now I want to help other writer’s accomplish their goal of writing a screenplay.
This class will be an overview of the basic steps to take when developing your rough draft in approximately 8 weeks. Whether you complete it within this time frame is solely up to you. It depends on how much time you put into achieving your goal.

- What is Screenwriting and screenwriting software (Writer’s Duet, Celtx, Final Draft etc)
- The Importance of Reading Other Screenplays
- Developing a High Concept Idea
- How to Write a Logline
Homework:
- Brainstorm a movie concept then find scripts similar to your idea.
- Write 2 loglines for your movie concept.
Review loglines and provide feedback
How To Write A Synopsis
Examples:
- Short Synopsis: “Holiday Heartbreak” & “Black Girl, Erupted”
- Long Synopsis: “There’s A New Santa In Town”
Homework:
- Write a one-paragraph synopsis describing your concept
- Continue to refine your logline.
